Four Steps You Can Take To Minimize Lawn Pest Control Expenditure
There are at least four steps you can take to minimize lawn pest control expenditure. We are coming from a background where pest control often turns out to be one of the greatest cost areas in any lawn care project. In actual fact, most people don’t expect to spend such huge sums of money on the control of pests in their lawns, even as they get started on the lawn care projects. It is not until they are deep into the projects that most folks come to realize just how much of an issue pest control in the lawn care context can turn out to be. The truth of the matter is that that the grasses which are typically planted in lawns are very attractive to pests. It is true that they can still survive in spite of such pest attacks. The problem is in the fact that as a lawn owner, you wont be contented if your grasses ‘just survive.’ You also want them to thrive. And while it is very possible for grasses (which are admittedly very hardy plants) to survive in spite of bearing the brunt of pest attacks, it tends to be rather hard for such grasses which are under pest attacks to thrive, so that you end up with the lush lawn you dream ...
... of. That is what hence creates the need for pest control, and the attendant expenditure.
Now while it is true that pest control expenditure is virtually inevitable in any serious lawn care project, there are several ways in which such expenditure can be minimized. We venture to look at four such ways, in which you can minimize lawn pest control expenditure:
1. Leverage on cultural practices that minimize the threat of pest attacks: it is encouraging to learn that there have actually been cases where people almost wholly avoid pest attacks in their lawns through cultural practices. Most of these practices revolve around the maintenance of proper lawn hygiene, but even things like weed control can have a positive impact, especially keeping in mind the fact that some weeds tend to harbor certain pests.
2. Opt for preemptive rather than curative approach to pest control: in almost all cases, the cost of pest control when undertaken on a curative basis (that is, after a pest attack) tends to be much higher than the cost of pest control when undertaken on a preemptive basis. This is in line with the very well known adage that prevention is better than cure.
3. Make a careful choice between DIY and professional lawn pest control: there are times when it turns out that paying professionals to control pests on your behalf is more cost-effective than doing the pest control on your own. There are other cases where the DIY alternative is better… you need to run the numbers, and then make an objective choice.
4. Make a careful choice of grass species: it is apparent that some grasses are more prone to woes like pest attacks than others. Ultimately, your choice of a grass species for your lawn may have an impact on what you have to spend on lawn pest control.
