Enhancing The Website Usability
The success of any website finally depends on its usability by the visitors. In fact, the visitors run the web site by buying what is being offered through the website and generating the revenue for sustaining the website. If the visitors are not comfortable at navigating through the website there is hardly any chance of the purchasing the product or service offered by that website. As a web designer, since you have designed the website, you may find it easy to navigate but this may not be applicable for the visitor. Following are the aspects that can enhance the usability of the website.
Headings and Titles
The headings and titles should be as distinct as possible. This is especially crucial if your website is being promoted through blogs and articles. If the heading and titles of the blogs and articles that are posted on the net give wrong information the result will be not as you expect. This is even applicable to the sections in the web pages.
Linking
The incoming links and the outgoing links should work perfectly. Some of the website designers commit a blunder when undermining the contribution ...
... of this aspect to the success of the website. The links play a pivotal role in facilitating the visitor to go from one web page to another. The effect of the link is very crucial when it directs a visitor from other website to your website. If the link in your website malfunctions and clicking of it lands the visitor somewhere else it can be a fatal blow to your online business.
Nowadays the designers have started using CSS to add icons to the list. The anchor texts can now be added to the links. The link should give an idea about what it is linking to.
Appeal to Click
If you want the visitor to click on some icon or link then he/she should be first tempted to do so. If the environment does not tempt the visitor to initiate this action he/she (visitor) is not going to click. When he/she does not click on that particular link or icon the desired results will not be got. CSS tricks and contrast can be used to lure the visitor into clicking specific links or icons.
Consistency of the Content
If one piece of information is aligned to the right side while the other is aligned to the left the visitor is usually left confused. When the visitor is confused the purpose of the website is not going to be served. Inconsistency at alignment has a negative impact on the appeal of the website too. Thus there should be consistency in the alignment of the content.
The functionality of the website should match with its appeal. Moreover the website should be downloaded as quickly as possible because the visitor usually does not like to wait for long.
