Four Lawn Care Practices That Will Give You A Lush Lawn

Many people tend to have lucid visions, as they embark on lawn care projects. In their visions, they see themselves, several months down the line, being the owners of lush, healthy lawns. Now there are those who believe that just having this ‘vision’ will lead to those desired results. But the more pragmatic folk are awake to the fact that there are things they have to do, if they are to transform their visions of lush, healthy lawns into reality (besides just having the visions). If you too find yourself at that stage, where you have a vision of a lush, healthy lawn, and where you are trying to figure out what you have to do to translate the vision into reality, you will find this discussion useful. For right now, we proceed to look at four lawn care practices that can give you the lush, healthy lawn you envision:
1. Keen selection of grasses: there are people who believe that any type of grass, provided it is well cared for, would tend to eventually look ‘lush.’ But this is not entirely true, because there are some types of grasses which are not genetically predisposed to look ‘lush,’ regardless of the level ...
... of care accorded to them. And then again, every person’s idea of a healthy lawn is different. Ideally, you should go for a grass species that, when fully grown and well taken care of, would tend to look like ‘what you have in mind.’ There are people who are involved in grass breeding, and from them (or their websites), you can get an idea as to what the various grass species would tend to look like at maturity if they are well cared for.
2. Proper lawn fertilization: there are many of us who don’t even know of the existence of specialized lawn fertilizers. Yet it is these which often make the difference between those lush, healthy lawns you see in some yards, and those emaciated, unappealing lawns you see in some other yards. Simply put, if you want to end up with a lush, healthy lawn, you really need to get a proper lawn fertilizer for it. In all this, you have to keep the bigger picture in mind though: that the objective in applying the fertilizer is to supply the grasses you will be growing on your lawn with the nutrients they need. This makes it essential for you to work out what nutrients your soil is likely to be lacking in, and then buy lawn fertilizers that supplement such nutrients.
3. Proper lawn pest control: your efforts at proper lawn care will bear no fruit if you let all manner of pests have a field day in it. Lawn pest control involves two actions. The first is where you proactively work out the pests that are likely to attack the grasses in your lawn, and put in place the relevant preventive measures. The second is where you keep on checking the lawn for unanticipated pest attacks, and if you see signs of any, immediately put in place measures to get rid of the offending pests.
4. Proper lawn irrigation: you won’t have the healthy, lush lawn you have envisioned if the grasses you plant are starved of water. Proper lawn irrigation, as part of scientific lawn care, is about ensuring that the grasses get ‘just enough’ water: neither too much, nor too little. Only then will they tend to grow lush and healthy.
