Nowadays, land surveying has become dynamic and technology oriented. The use of 3D Laser scanning technology for land surveying is a common tool. This technology was first introduced in the year 1998 to get relevant statistical data for various purposes. The introduction of 3d laser scanning has brought new revolution in land surveying. GPS land surveying provides spatial data and elevations for preparation of construction plans. Over the years, the use of 3d laser scanning has grown rapidly. The 3d laser scanning technology is vastly used in the archeological and environmental land surveys as well.

Earlier for land surveying, some traditional methods were used, as there was no specific technology available. The traditional surveying methods involve lots of complications and also the output of such methods is not completely accurate. Also, the traditional methods are expensive, time consuming and manually conducted. The 3d laser scanning has no such constraints and it gives spatial data for the object. The 3d ...
... laser scanning technology uses different light patterns in the form of stripes to produce a 3d image of the object. The 3d image is then passed through 3d scanners that produce a high resolution image of the object. This high resolution image data contains every smallest deviation, which is required by engineers and architects.

The 3d laser scanning uses data received from advance GPS systems. This data is submitted in 3d and 2d CAD models to analyze its adequacy. These 3d models are not only used for the scanning of commercial buildings, but also used for the scanning of historical monumental buildings.

The data provided by the 3d laser scanning services is interpreted using CAD software. Some people don’t rely on this technology and use traditional methods, because they are relatively unfamiliar in interpreting the data provided by the CAD models. Proper interpretation of data is required, to know the correct measurements. The data provided by CAD models has regression graphs and diagrams, like polygon diagram. This data is editable and results can be measured using various other parameters, as per the requirements.

The inclusion of 3d scanning technology in land surveying has given surveying firms a liberty to undertake multiple projects at a time without exceeding their surveying budget. This technology has also played an important role in providing safety to millions of people by providing accurate measurements to engineers, so that they can build safe infrastructures.
