What is the greatest fear humans have? It is the fear of unknown and fear of darkness. The fear of unknown arises from something which we do not know and are faced with. This fear gets eliminated once you know something about it. But the fear of darkness is something one cannot deal with for longer time. Since childhood we are told that evils, bad spirits emerge only in the darkness. We also see it in movies that the ghosts come out of their graves only during nights and when all the people are asleep. We often associate darkness with all evil things and brightness with obviously good things. It always feels secure to be in bright light than to be in darkness. The gloominess and scariness associated with the darkness is frightening. This fear must have been present during the early human civilization. So the ancient man invented fire which kept the wild animals away. The fire is also believed to keep the evil spirits away.
