Using Wordpress For Creating Content
WordPress in one of the best known platform for creating blogs but it can also be used to create a user generated content website.
The most important reason of using WordPress instead of other available platforms for this purpose is content, template and style sheet are completely independent of each other. Moreover, comparatively WordPress is the most SEO friendly Content Management System and it allows taking complete benefit of link building opportunities. Some SEO plug-ins in WordPress makes easy to do On-page SEO of the website built on WordPress. There are also various templates available so there is no need to worry about the look of the website.
Steps to use WordPress to create User generated Content Website is discussed below:-
1] Installation of Plug in and its activation. A Plug in called Exex-PHP should be installed which allows you to insert PHP code right inside the body of the WordPress page or post.
2] Creating a Custom page template and uploading it to your Theme Directory. You can create a custom page to display the most popular news or list of items that have got the maximum reviews.

... Within your template, it should be determined where to place the blocks. You can also customize ID’s or classes to the div’s and even style them. Select the static pages option and select the page created by you in step two above.
4] Create a new page using your custom template by simply selecting the template from the drop down on the edit screen of the page. Now we want that the post should be created every time the data is entered by the user so for this a standard feature of WordPress should be used that allows users to post data to blog using e-mail.
5] Refresh the page to see whether the new tabs multiedit is created or not. The tabs will appear above the visual editor. Also after creating another page and placing the form inside it to get the data or content from the user, it should be formatted according to your own logic and then the output HTML code should be sent to the e-mail id set up. The content will than get published as a post.
WordPress Plug-ins available for creating eye-catchy featured content section:
- Featurific: It is WordPress Plug-in that displays featured items in a professional flash gallery. This plug-in is available for free for both WordPress users and Non-WordPress users. It is very easy to install and also runs in Flash 8. The backgrounds, text and images are customizable. Runs on any browser and works on any server as it is based on XML. It can also be placed in the sidebar.
- FeatPlug: This can generate featured content section for your website using suitable stories. It has some good features like image caching, template support, layered architecture, image enlarging, broken image checking and WordPress MU support. It can also run as a standalone script or even integrate into other blog/forum software.
- Featured Content Gallery: This plug-in makes use of the custom field option of WordPress to display the images in the featured gallery of one category. It supports single category and height, width and text overlay values can be configured.
These are some well known plug-ins available. There are many other plugins in WordPress having different features which can be used according to the requirements.
