Vanuatu Part 1 - Holiday Houses & Accommodation

I love Vanuatu, the comfortable tropical climate, the smiling people, the fresh produce, French breads, organic beef, the colourful coral, the crystal clear water with abundant marine life, the waterfalls, the relaxed infectious spirit and the rich cultural diversity of a unspoilt and often overlooked country that is simply calling for you to experience and explore! One day I will live here with my wife and 4 kids. Campbell Bevan, Managing Director of Amazing Accom
Vanuatu has recently been ranked sixth on the Lonely Planet's list of the Top Ten Countries of 2011 to visit. Asia---Pacific travel Editor Shawn Low says that "Vanuatu made the list for its unrivalled authentic cultural experiences. Vanuatu really delivers when it comes to interesting things to do." Authentic cultural and nature based experiences propelled Vanuatu into the top 10 list, with Vanuatu's strong living traditions, festivals, active volcanoes, 'thunderous waterfalls' and 'remote villages' highlighted as part of the appeal.
Travellers need to understand that Vanuatu is so much more than just a beautiful beachside destination. There is a huge ...
... amount to do here, abseil down waterfalls, sand board on Volcano's, see traditions of an ancient culture, take a jungle trek and so much more. ! Book your flights and amazing accommodation now!
Holiday accommodation - What to book!
Holiday houses (Vacation Villas) - When travelling as a family, couples or in a group of 3 of more people, I highly recommend booking a self-catering holiday home (also known as a vacation villa). Most holiday home rentals come with full time cleaning staff and gardeners - ensuring a true holiday. Efate Island has a broad range of quality and luxury holiday homes to house all types of groups, whether it be individually, together, or houses all next door to each other for those extended groups. The prices online include all linens, towels, and cleaning, and are usually fully serviced except on Sundays.
I always rent a car for the whole time or part thereof so we can still shop at Au Bon Marche (the French super markets) and explore Efate on days we feel like adventure. Overall though we sit around the pool, go snorkelling in front of the house, and eat amazing feasts of organic, beef, seafood, French breads, and fresh produce bought from the 6 days a week all day farmers market in central Port Vila.
Resorts - Vanuatu has many quality and luxury resorts from large popular branded operators to boutique and exclusive privately owned resorts. The beauty of a resort is that all your meals are available on site and typically a lot of activities are included in the nightly rate, such as kayaking, snorkelling, non-powered boats, swimming pool(s) and sometimes tennis courts or petanque. Most Resorts offer free pick up from the Airport and drop off, and also transportation options to different parts of the island.
Resorts typically attract couples on a romantic getaway, although some of the larger more commercial resorts cater perfectly for family holidays with daily kids programmes to ensure Mum and Dad has a vacation as well! Some resorts cater very well for weddings on site and can accommodate the whole wedding party at the resort - which is certainly a brilliant way to celebrate a marriage! Efate Island has the most resorts but other resorts are found on Tanna Island, and Espiritu Santo.
Vanuatu's Colourful History
Many of the islands of Vanuatu have been inhabited for thousands of years, the oldest archaeological evidence found dating to 2000 BC. In 1605, the Portuguese explorer Pedro Fernandez de QuirĂ³s became the first European to reach the islands, believing it to be part of Terra Australis. Europeans began settling the islands in the late 18th century, after British explorer James Cook visited the islands on his second voyage, and them the name New Hebrides. In 1887, the islands began to be administered by a French-British naval commission. In 1906, the French and British agreed to an Anglo-French Condominium on the New Hebrides. During World War II, the islands of Efate and Espiritu Santo were used as allied military bases. In the 1960s, the ni-Vanuatu people started to press for self-governance and later independence; full sovereignty gave was finally granted by both European nations on July 30, 1980. It joined the UN in 1981, and the Non-Aligned Movement in 1983.
