One Day Without Shoes, April 5 - Hansen Surfboard plans to go Barefoot to Raise Awareness.

ENCINITAS, Calif., March. 21, 2011 - Hansen Surfboards, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, will go barefoot April 5 to increase awareness for One Day Without Shoes.

According to the organizers of One Day Without Shoes, many children grow up without shoes and are at risk of infection and disease because of it.

“We are taking part in One Day Without Shoes because we would like people to come into our store and ask why everyone is barefoot,” said Josh Hansen. “We’re doing this for those people who are going barefoot because they have got no choice. The impact of a pair of shoes can be huge on someone’s life if that person didn’t have shoes before.”

To add to One Day Without Shoes, Hansen Surfboards also participates in Soles4Souls every year. The campaign encourages the public to leave their unwanted shoes at Hansen Surfboards in exchange for a discounted 10% off a brand new pair of shoes or sandals for each pair donated within the store.

... and when we can’t keep any more of them gathered at the back of the store, I drive out to Las Vegas towing a trailer full of these shoes and donate them to charity so people without shoes can use them,” added Josh. “Last year I drove there with a trailer filled with 3,500 pounds of shoes. It’s amongst our best programs here because we know it has such a tremendous impact.”
