It is a sad fact that most retirees do not have enough money to live on, much less enough money to actually enjoy their retirement. The only way to make ends meet and enjoy your retirement without working full time is to find ways to make an extra income in addition to your social security, pension or retirement plan.

There are many ways that you can make an extra income without being employed full time. First, you can use your skills, talents or hobbies to make money. If you enjoy children, you can babysit evenings and weekends when most parents cannot find sitters. If you enjoy fixing things around the house, hire yourself out as a handyman. If you enjoy quilting, turn your hobby into cash by getting a cheap booth at a craft fair or flea market to sell your wares. The possibilities are truly only as endless as your own skills, experience, interests, abilities, and of course your imagination.

However, you do not need to have any inventory or sell any products at all. Anyway you cut it, this is actually a very easy, low stress and low hassle way to make an extra income.

There is yet another way you can make an extra income, although this usually requires an investment also. There are many network marketing companies available that you can join for a fee or a monthly fee. This fee basically gives you the right to use the company’s name, image and materials, as well as sell their products. Some are more expensive than others. As a general rule, the more expensive it is to join the more expensive the products are, and thus the harder they are to sell. This is not always the case, however. For example, AmeriPlan can become expensive because you have to pay an initial fee and a monthly fee, but the health plans they offer are very reasonable.

However, you should be wary of any network marketing company or pyramid scheme. These can be very expensive, and some are scams. Some are so old that you cannot possibly make the kind of money made by those at the top levels, because you won’t be able to get that many people involved in the company. With only a few exceptions, the money is to be made by getting people to join the company, not by selling products. One exception to this is Avon. Their products are in such high demand that you can make decent money either way, although the emphasis in that company is on products, not people.

Whatever you decide to do to earn an extra income during your retirement, think carefully about the sacrifices you might have to make to do so. The purpose of this is to enjoy your retirement. You won’t do that if you are spending all your time making money. Anything you do should be part time effort, and give you the time to enjoy the freedom you will be earning for yourself.
