ENCINITAS, Calif., March. 21, 2011 - Hansen Surfboards, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, is going barefoot April 5 to increase awareness for One Day Without Shoes.

Research from the organizers of One Day Without Shoes have found that large numbers of kids around the world do not own any shoes and as such, run the increased risk of infection and disease.

“We are collaborating in One Day Without Shoes because we want people to walk into our store and ask why everyone is barefoot,” said Josh Hansen. “We’re doing this for the people who are going barefoot because they have no choice. The impact of a pair of shoes can be huge on a person’s life if that person didn’t have shoes before.”

To add to One Day Without Shoes, Hansen Surfboards also participates in Soles4Souls every year. The campaign encourages the public to leave their superfluous shoes at Hansen Surfboards in exchange for a discounted 10% off a new pair of shoes or sandals for every pair donated within the store.

It is one of our favorite programs here because we know that it has such a huge impact.”
