In US, blue shield and blue cross association is the major insurance provider. It consists of totally 39 different kinds of health insurance organizations and companies, all these companies work together for providing best insurance plans. Primarily, blue shield and blue cross are organized as two separate companies. In 1929, blue cross association was started, while in 1939 blue shield was formed. BCBS Federal Employee Program

The federal employee program of BCBS offers two kinds of general health insurance such as standard plan and basic plan. Basic option plan is very less expensive for both a family and an individual. While the standard option has low office visit co-pays. As per 2010, for the basic plan, office visit was $25, while for the standard plan, it was $20. For outpatient and inpatient surgery, the basic option was $100 per surgeon, while the standard plan offers $300. For hospital admission, the basic plan offers up to $750, while the standard plan offers $200.

Blue Cross Federal Other Employee Plans

BCBS offers numerous federal employee services in addition to pharmacy plan. For both the standard and basic plan members, retail pharmacy service is offered, while the mail order pharmacy service is available only to the standard plan member. For using the retail pharmacy services, the members just need to show their unique ID card to the provider in BCBS network. The standard members not only make use of the provider, but also they need to pay full amount while purchasing and for reimbursement, they need to fill a claim form. Also it offers vision and dental insurance along with service benefit plans.
