All types of organizations in today’s competitive environment rely on in-time availability of their business-critical information. This is also vital for the ongoing success of their company. Tape-based backup technologies have traditionally been the IT professionals’ first choice. LTO ultrium tape format is an extremely reliable, efficient, and intelligent solution that keeps your precious data files safe and available at lowest cost per GB.

Dell, a technical expert and innovator in backup storage industry, manufactures a complete range of LTO products. Dell LTO3 tape media in conjunction with its PowerVault LTO-3 drive family delivers a high performance solution to the high end workstations, midsized organizations, enterprise applications, small businesses and server environments. Dell LTO 3 cartridge’s track density has been increased that enables it to house uncompressed information of 400GB. On ...
... the other hand, the data transfer rate of Dell LTO3 drive also has been increased to 160 MB/second (compressed), which makes it ideal for data-intensive application like management information systems, supply chain management, data mining and video archiving.

PowerVault LTO-3 drives have been intelligently designed to provide backward read/record compatibility with LTO-2, and read compatibility with LTO1 backup tape. Dell LTO3 tape technology also offers “write-once read-many” WORM mechanism that provides reliable protection to the recorded data. LTO-3 WORM cartridge records the data in non-rewritable format and prevents accidental data deletions, thus enabling the I.T managers to meet the tough data-compliance requirements with higher operating efficiency.

LTO tape technology is an open standard, which provides exceptional compatibility of LTO drive and tape among different brands. This openness has resulted in greater innovation, superior quality and competitive prices. Major brands of LTO are Verbatim, HP, TDK, Maxell, Sony, Quantum, Imation and IBM.

Dell is also offering complete LTO solutions based on LTO-4 and LTO 5 ultrium tape technologies. Uncompressed media capacity of LTO4 cartridge is 800GB, and that of LTO-5 is 1.5 TB. Backward compatibility and multiple high-capacity LTO generations help to provide customers greater flexibility along with investment protection. That is why LTO ultrium tape format has the highest market share.
