Have You Recently Had A Root Canal Procedure And Are Still In Pain?
If you have recently had a root canal procedure (anytime within the past 30 to 60 days) and are still experiencing pain, you should immediately contact your Dentist and schedule a “follow-up” visit, regarding the pain sensations still present following a “Root Canal Treatment”.
You could be experiencing a “Root Canal Failure (RCF)”; the term RCF doesn’t denote a failure, by-any-means of the Dentist performing this type of procedure; it merely explains that a “failure” has occurred within the root canal system, that could be attributed to one or several underlying conditions.
Root Canal Failures are a common procedure for Endodontic Surgeons
For every root canal procedure performed in the U.S., approximately 80 to 95% of these procedures are successful and a permanent method of saving the patient from a tooth extraction.
However in a few cases (approximately 5 to 15% of all root canal cases documented in the U.S.,) a tiny fracture somewhere deep inside the tooth, or a tiny root and its canal are not seen and repaired with the non-surgical dental instruments a Dentist has at his/her ...
... command.
For example, a minute fracture can occur deep inside the tooth after a root canal treatment, once the patient grits his or her affect tooth, or bites, chews or incorrectly places the affected tooth into the bite formation, causing a fracture to occur, even days later, creating significant pain for the patient, post root canal procedure.
Or in another example, a tiny root canal may not have been detected during the procedure, due to the tooth’s significant decay or infection, which causes swelling inside the tissues, making some roots canals quite difficult to see or impossible to remove the root, given the non-surgical instruments available for in-office Dentistry procedures.
Oftentimes, there may be as few as 2 root canal systems or as many as 4 or 5 root canal systems in each tooth; depending upon the tooth’s infection levels, and whether or not the tooth is a molar or an incisor, the root canal systems could have calcium deposits; making a normal root canal procedure impossible to full complete, without specialist surgery, referred to as “Endodontic Surgery”.
In another example, it is possible that a tooth is so badly decayed or infected, that it simply does not effectively survive the root canal treatment, and within 72 hours begins to fail, with collapsing root canal systems, or tooth fracture.
At this time, it is very important to not delay in contacting your Dentist, so that a proper referral process can be submitted to your dental insurance provider, such as Delta Dental; so that an Endodontic Surgeon and surgical procedure may be approved and scheduled as quickly as possible.
In Boston, MA., there are several thousand highly qualified Dentists and according to your dental insurance plan, Endodontists – all of whom are easily scheduled and approved by your dental insurance provider.
Be sure to keep your dental insurance card handy and on your person, at all times when you visit your dental professional; this will make the insurance contact process easy and quick, as you pain levels are probably quite high.
