Here is a situation you may find familiar. You have just set up a website or blog and you want to start building some links to it. You put plenty of effort in for the first few days and then gradually it all tapers off. Soon you realise that days and weeks have gone by with no link building efforts at all from you.

If you are nodding in recognition of this situation, you won’t be alone. Link building is an incredibly important part of search engine optimisation, and yet plenty of people take it on in a spasmodic way, if at all.

This is not the best way to do it. Link building will help strengthen your website, bring in more traffic and rank it higher in the search results. But you need to do it regularly to get the best possible results. This is the biggest secret of all in link building responsibly and yet while most people know it they don’t put it into practice!

The best way to ensure this doesn’t happen to you is to create a timetable or plan of action you can follow. The good news is that you don’t have to do lots every single day. In fact if you go full tilt into link building you might even ...
... be penalised by the search engines, so taking it easy is definitely a good thing to do.

For instance, you might decide to create three new links every weekday. One could be from an article written for an article directory. One could be a tweet sent from Twitter to alert people to your latest blog post. The third could be any number of things; perhaps a link from another social media site or perhaps another relevant website of yours. You might even leave a comment on a blog that enables you to link back to your own site.

As you can see, link building does not need to take up a lot of your time. But it should enable you to gradually build up a good number of links from a variety of other websites. This will mean you can start to enjoy a better ranking website as far as SEO is concerned, not to mention seeing a rise in visitors.

The secret to successful link building is to do it regularly and naturally. It’s not the done thing to opt for creating five hundred links in a frenzy now, and then not do anything for months on end. It is far easier to start creating them gradually and steadily, and to keep on going for the long term. This is easier to keep up and it will become a habit as well. It means you can look forward to a much better and stronger site in the future – one that gets more traffic on a regular basis too.
