Come 2012 when UK will finally be using digital TV signals and with varied TV providers in foray, choosing the most suitable one does become slightly complicated for there are a wide range of factors to be considered.

The factors range from set top box, recording capacity, choice of TV packs, their prices and subscription packages. But with advancements in digital TV signal technology, factors which one needs to consider move on to catch up services, on demand services and accessing programmes using the Internet connection. The main three digital TV providers UK include Sky TV, Virgin Media and BT Vision which offer special packages on a regular basis.

Sky offers choice in TV boxes viz. Sky Plus Box and Sky +HD box while a variety of TV packs and a special HD pack for those who wish to watch programmes in High Definition. The Sky +HD box offers 250GB space for recording while the 1 TB box on the offer is slightly expensive but does work best if you wish to record more programmes. With reference to Sky catch up and on demand services, you could check out Sky Anytime Plus service which can be accessed through Sky ...

BT Vision is offered by BT, a leading provider of telecommunication services in UK. BT Broadband customers can avail the BT Vision service through their broadband connection. They can go for either BT’s Vision + Box and opt for on demand programmes and pay for them accordingly. In case they wish to go for the TV packs which require monthly subscription towards the box and TV programmes. They can also go for BT Vision services without subscription as well. The TV programmes on the offer include children’s programmes, music videos, catch up services, BBC, ITV and other shows. In case you wish to view Sky Sports 1 and 2 , you can opt for them on a monthly basis. The Vision + Box works as a Freeview set top box and provides you access to Freeview TV. Incorporated with a 160GB hard drive, you can easily record and store up to 80 hours of Freeview TV. The Vision + Box airs programmes in HD format. With regards to their on demand service, they offer almost 3000 plus programmes as compared to the channels offered for viewing. But with advertisement free programmes, the duration spent on watching the programme reduces considerably. The on demand services of BT Vision have yet to satisfy most of BT Vision customer requirements.

Lastly but not in the least, you have Virgin Media offering digital TV services through a range of three TV boxes V-Box, V+HD Box and the TiVo box which are equally capable of catering to TV viewing. The V Box which is HD and 3D compatible can be used without a subscription. The V Box also offers on demand and catch up services. There are separate charges payable for activating its HD services. The V+HD box offers 80 hours of recording capacity of standard definition programmes. For availing this box you do need to pay the HD activation charges and a special monthly charge which is waived off only if you go top of the line Virgin TV pack. The TiVo box is definitely a good choice but is equally expensive, for apart from the cost, you have to bear the installation costs and the monthly charges irrespective of the TV pack you go for. But then TiVo offers ITB storage space and extensive user friendly guide for helping you to locate programmes of your choice.

Finally, the choice of TV provider is your personal decision and depends upon which factors you consider important. For those of you who wish to get the most of the TV entertainment, you could opt for Sky TV while BT Vision is known to offer value for money TV deals for you could always opt for on demand programmes and pay for what you watch and lastly Virgin Media is slated to offer better TV programme services especially in the catch up and Video on Demand services for which you do need to wait.
