Basically, compound medicines are prepared by expert pharmacists who combine different drug formulae to meet a patient’s specific needs. Though expert pharmacists are always behind the making of these medicines but they can be only availed when prescribed by physicians and are not commercially available, except than in a compounding pharmacy.
Traditional medicines were antidote to many health hazards and are still considered as one of the reliable healers for several ailments.
What is Traditional Medicine?
Traditional Medication involves deriving benefits from variety of herbs and mineral extracts. Traditional Medicines may be used in combination or singly for healing and diagnosing various health hazards and aid in pain relief.
With advancements in the medical realms, physicians conformed to the ...
... benefits of topical medicines.
What is Topical Medicine?
Topical medicines are those that are externally applied on the body surfaces; either directly on the skin surfaces or on the mucous membranes, such as ears, eyes, nose. Topical medications can be epicutaneous or inhalational. While epicutaneous topical medicines are applied on to the skin directly, the inhalational topical medicines are inhaled, as in asthma medication. Topical medication can also be applied to the other tissue surfaces other than on skin. Eye drops or ear drops or the medicines applied to the tooth surfaces are some of the examples of topical medication.
Difference between Traditional Medicines and Topical Medicines in the Application Area
Traditional medication includes herbal medicines which are prepared from various herbs and herbal materials and the ingredients include parts of plants and other related materials. On the contrary, most topical medicines include powders, ointments, lotions, gels and creams that involve chemical compositions and ingredients.
While topical medicines are applied on the external body surface, directly on to the affected area or may be inhaled, these are never consumed orally. However, it is always not the case with traditional medicines. Along with oils, powders or creams which are part of traditional medication, there are tablets (Ayurvedic pills) which are consumed orally. Sometimes, healing therapy in traditional medication also involve acupuncture process, massage or spiritual therapies.
Though application of topical and traditional medicine differs from one another, both of them have considerable impact in treating health ailments to the best.
