Vale tudo shorts are more like biking shorts – usually made primarily of spandex or lycra. They are fully flexible and allow for 100% natural movement. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) practitioners often opt for vale tudo shorts because they allow this flexibility. Whether you go for board shorts or vale tudo shorts, make sure they are double or triple stitched and are designed for movement as this is the #1 priority in your shorts selection.

Protect your grill! There’s nothing worse than an errant elbow to the mouth that breaks a tooth or cuts your lips. There are 2 main types of mouth guards: single and double guards. A single mouthguard protects only your upper teeth, but allows you to talk normally and breathe more easily. Adouble mouth guard protects both the upper and lower teeth, but makes it a little harder to breathe or talk. In our opinion this tradeoff is more than worth it.
