If I’d have to mention the one most annoying thing, it would be long-windedness and nagging. Of course you want that “most special day in your life” to be memorable, but preferably in a pleasant way. For me, indecisiveness in choosing a ring and countless trips to the jeweller’s aren’t nowhere near pleasant. After all, there are other ways of choosing an engagement or wedding ring nowadays.

Coming to a decision

My sweet girlfriend suffers from indecision. Even when making minor decisions, she’s going through several phases to make up her mind. The considerations are anything but rational and there’s no logic whatsoever in the order.
An example: when we decided –after three days of discussion- to choose a diamond ring, I thought the next step would be actually choosing one that was nice and affordable. That was totally unacceptable to my wife-to-be. We had to decide on the shape of the diamond first. I suggested to choose a square stone for my ring and a round one for hers, but I didn’t care enough to go against her, so I added: ‘but if you want something else, that’s alright with ...
... me too.’

All wrong

That was a major mistake. I was accused of a lack of involvement right away, which I unconvincingly defuted. That same afternoon we were at the jeweller’s to look at diamond rings. The real diamond rings in his assortment weren’t many and they were also expensive, therefore we included other kinds of gemstones. After two hours even the extremely patient lady who had assisted us decided it had been enough. She let us make our own choices, saying she had to attend to another customer. Yeah right. She got away easy with that excuse.

Looking online after all

We are now two weeks and three visits to the jeweller’s store further and there’s only four rings left to choose from. I have lost all interest by now; I can’t stand to see the inside of another jeweller’s store. In the meantime I did get my girlfriend to look online for rings. It actually helped her make her choice. My only hope is that she will be happy with her final choice; that’s essential for my happiness too.
