Radiographic Testing, Charpy Impact Testing And Hardness Testing
Machines, apart from manpower, are an integral part of almost all businesses for outcome they bring. It therefore becomes necessary to keep them functionally efficient so that all operations of business are not affected, rather can run smoothly and efficiently. This is why organizations across the world have started realizing need of adopting Non destructive Testing (NDT) or Non Destructive Evaluation (NDE) methods to examine and test the conditions of materials, structural components, elements and different objects related to machinery. Another major reason to employ these testing methods is to ensure the safety of the employees and also, to prevent any mishaps. There are various testing methods that are used to detect and prevent any flaws; some of them are Radiographic Testing, Charpy Impact Testing, Hardness Testing, and Thickness Testing etc.
Non destructive Evaluation (NDE)
Non destructive Evaluation is a method to evaluate material properties, locate the flaws within the materials, fabricated parts etc. It provides protective measures against products liability, enhances products’ performance and minimizes ...
... the scrap loss.NDE methods are widely used by organizations to perform the functions mentioned below
• Detection of the flaws of materials, systems or components
• Verify the proper processing
• Determine the location of flaws
• Screening the leakage or breakage
• Welding Inspection
• Evaluation of operational characteristics of materials or fabrications
Radiographic Testing
Radiographic Testing, also referred as Industrial Radiography is one of the NDE methods which are used for inspecting materials for unseen flaws with the help of X-Rays that penetrate various materials to find faults.
Hardness Testing
Hardness Testing is done to determine hardness of materials used. It is used widely for the quality control of surface treatments procedures. However, there are various techniques and mechanisms to conduct hardness test, but most common among them is scratching or cutting by resistance. The standard hardness test methods that are proven helpful to measure hardness are Vickers, Rockwell and Brinell.
Charpy Impact Testing
The Charpy Impact Testing, also known as the Charpy v-notch test, is a standardized strain-rate test, helpful in determining the amount of energy absorbed by materials during fracture. The absorbed energy gives the measurement of a material’s toughness. This test is also widely used by industries as it is easy to prepare and conduct, in addition, the results can be obtained quickly in cost-effective manner.
Apart from the aforementioned methods, there are other numerous NDE methods like Thickness Testing, Leek Testing and Hydrostatic Testing etc. which are applied widely in industries. Browse through http://www.abcndt.com for more information.
