Karwa chauth is a very special occasion in the life of every Indian married woman. Wedding bond in itself is the starting to a new life, which changes the whole definition of the life of bride and groom. Marriage gives new meanings to life of the bride and groom and gives them a reason to cherish every moment with their loved one. Fasting whole day, without water and food is not at all easy, but Indian women do this for the long and happy life of their husbands. This is a tradition, which has been followed by the Indian women from ages and every year they fast for the prosperity of their husbands. Though, this may seem very vague, but Indians have very firm belief in this practise and they do this with full dedication. A salute should be given to the Indian women, who celebrate this festival with such conviction and do not even drink a sip of water for the whole day.
Karwa Chauth is surely an occasion in Indian marriage, which strengthens the marriage bond of the bride and groom and makes them realise the power of their wedding. Karwa Chauth is celebrated every year in most of ...
... the Indian families. The festival is celebrated three days after the full moon of the kartik month. It is a kind of tribute paid to the wedding bond, by the bride. The fast is kept by the Indian bride to gain blessings from god for their happy and everlasting married life. Loads of blessings and gifts are also received by the Indian bride, from her relatives and elder people in the family. This is a very auspicious occasion and every Indian bride tries to stand true on the sanctity of the belief and the power of this fast. Women fasting for the first time, after their married life are very excited about the whole process and seeks guidance from her family members.
The process of the Karwa Chauth is the same, but the newly wed- bride seems to be more cautious, because of her first time. The festive mood of this occasion starts few days before the karwa chauth as the women start purchasing new clothes and bangles for the day. The Indian bride dresses herself in new saari or suit preferably of red or maroon colour, with all the items of make- up and sola sringar. On the early morning of the Karwa Chauth, around 4’0 clock, the bride eats the sargi, given to her by her mother-in-law. This is to be done before sunrise. Sargi contains, Pheni, Mathi, and eating items, depending on the cultural practices followed by the family. After that throughout the day, the bride is not supposed to eat or drink anything. In the evening time, the Indian women, dresses like a newly wed bride and heads towards the karwa pooja. The married women are supposed to attend the karwa katha, in which an old lady narrates the story of the Karwa Chauth and tells the significance of keeping the fast.
After completing the story, the married women wait for the moon to come and so that they can open their fast. The fast is really a tough one and the women keeping it for the first time, needs to be motivated by their husbands, so that they can fast for the whole day. The husband pleases his wife with special gifts, which makes her day special and brings smiles on her face. After the moonrise, the bride performs a prayer, with karwa thali, and water and then prays for the successful closure of her fast. Then she is fed water and sweets by her husband, by which the bride breaks her fast and eats a lavish dinner. These days, many unmarried girls, also fast for their, would be husbands and pray for their longer lives.
