Marriages bring a lot of changes in the life of bride and groom both. There are a lot of occasions, when the bride and groom have the chance to know each other better and festivals are one of the best ways. The overall life, the preferences and the meanings to it, all changes for both the bride and groom and their expectations get concentrated to a single person. The rituals and the ceremonies, which the Indian couples perform after marriage, have a lot to do with the compatibility and the bond they form in their married life. One of the most important festivals in the lives of the married women in India, which portrays the true picture of Indian women and the respect she is suppose to carry for her husband is Karwachauth. Karwa chauth is basically a fast, which the Indian wives, keep for her husband for his long life. The Indian wives fast for the whole day and pray to god for the long life of her husband.

In India, fasts are kept for several reasons, and in case for karwa chauth, it’s for the prosperous and long life of the husband, which is kept by his wife. Karwa chauth, is mainly kept by the married women, and ...
... is celebrated in a grand way in India. This is basically a part of the Hindu culture, but most of the women in India, keep fasts, for the long life of their husband. This is also due to the impact of the area and the community, that bride of religions other than Hindu, celebrate this festival. Karwa Chauth is surely an occasion in Indian marriages, which strengthens the marriage bond of the bride and groom and makes them realise the power of their wedding.

There is a proper history that is behind the festival and the firmness of the belief that keeping the fast, can grant a happy and a long lived life to the husband of the women, who keeps the fast. The bride or the married woman are said to observe the Karwa Chauth, for her whole life and keep her husband blessed with prosperity and happiness. The bride on this day, dresses like a newly wed and prays for the happiness and contentment in her married life. The mother- in- law gifts sargi to the bride, which consists of all the important make –up and dressing materials, like sindoor, glass bangles, mehandi, make up material, and traditional jewellery for her. The mother in law also gives Pheni, which is a special sweet dish, gifted to her daughter- in- law. The bride also gifts to her mother- in- law, which can be anything, ranging from a saari to jewellery. The husband also pleases her wife and gifts her, what she has been asking for from long. The Indian brides wait for the moment when she receives gifts from her husband.

There is always a craze for the first karwa chauth in the Indian brides, because they actually get to practise all the customs, which they have been witnessing from long. The bride eats early morning, before sun- rise, the food items gifted by her mother- in- law, after which she does not eat anything. The bride is not even allowed to drink water the whole day. She can drink water only after seeing the moon and the custom also says that the wife drinks water after fast, from the hands of her husband only. In fact, these days, many husbands also keep fast for their wives and pray for their togetherness forever. This is also a very sweet ritual, which adds love and happiness in the married life of the bride and groom.
