1. To be legal! Under the Tax Services Act 2009, the FNS40210 a href="http://www.nationalcollege.edu.au/certificate-iv-in-bookkeeping.html">Certificate IV in Bookkeeping is set to become the minimum formal education requirement for registered BAS (Business Activity Statement) agents. If you are a contract bookkeeper or an employee performing bookkeeping tasks you must attain this qualification by 2012.

The new legislation came into effect in March 2010 but a transition period has been granted until February 2012. After 2012 all Bookkeepers must hold this minimum formal qualification.

2. To kickstart a career as a BAS Agent. By using a BAS Agent taxpayers are protected by “safe harbour provisions” which remove penalties for any misstatement or late lodgement due to mistakes an agent may make in the course of their work. These safe harbour provisions are not available to those who do not use a BAS Agent to process their BAS.

This qualification will give you advanced standing in the a href="http://www.nationalcollege.edu.au/certificate-iv-in-bookkeeping.html">FNS50210 Diploma of Accounting and selected Diploma qualifications in the FNS10 Financial Services Training Package.
