Why Buying Specialized Equipment On The Secondary Market Can Mean Big Savings
Every company has to deal with many of the same problems. For example, where do they get the materials, machines, equipment that they will need to do business? Additionally, do they have any competitors in the same field that will force them to keep prices low? If the answer to that is yes, then saving money anywhere is very important
Unfortunately that usually means cutting the labor force which does slow down production, but is the fastest way to cut costs and save money. Many companies rely on this strategy first because most of the equipment they need is just too expensive. When a company buy computers for their business, typically they have no problem finding a great deal because there are so many computer companies out there that each one is willing to give out a group discount for buying from them. Many business materials come at a cheaper price than what the general public is quoted because business buy in greater volumes. The same goes for office supplies and many other things.
However, when it comes to buying a piece of specialized equipment like an injection molding machine, there are no discounts because ...
... few companies make it so there is less competition. Not only that, but the machines are very expensive and not a easy purchase for any company. However, if a company needs one, they have to buy it regardless of the price. The same problem comes up with things like semiconductor equipment, which also can be very expensive to purchase.
The important thing to remember is that even though this equipment is very expensive, if you need it you have to buy it. However, that doesn't mean you have to pay top price for it. Many companies around the world are struggling and much of their equipment is for sale at a highly discounted price. Buying on the secondary market means purchasing an injection molding machine that has been used already, but it might still be in great condition and cost much less than a new one would. Think about it like buying a car, if a dealership sold a brand new car for $30,000, and the same model with only a few thousand miles on it as a used option for $10,000 less, which one would you buy? You would buy the used one because even though it is only relatively new, the difference in price is staggering. Well some of the specialized equipment used as our examples earlier can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars and the discounts on slightly used versions can mean huge savings.
Ray McBride is frequent attendee of liquidation auctions, and has seen the opportunity to find huge discounts on an injection molding machine or semiconductor equipment with increasing regularity.
