Dutch Masters cigars have been sold in the United States since 1911, which is longer than most premium cigar brands currently in production. Dutch Masters cigars' packaging is immediately recognizable, featuring a replica of Rembrandt's famous painting De Staalmeesters (also known as Syndics of the Drapers' Guild) on the lid of the box.



Dutch Masters were originally made by the G.H. Johnson Cigar Company. In 1921, the Consolidated Cigar Corporation merged G.H. Johnson with six cigar companies. In 1999, Consolidated Cigar was acquired by Altadis. Altadis was acquired by Imperial Tobacco in 2008.



Dutch Masters are machine rolled using a blend of Cuban seed tobaccos and natural leaf wrappers, as opposed to some other machine rolled blends, which use homogenized sheet binder and wrapper. The cigars are typically smooth and mild with a mellow flavor and aroma.
