Can Christians Be Cursed?

We don’t talk much about curses these days in Western culture. But people do still utter curses and the Bible, itself, talks about curses. They are real and they do still affect people. But what about Christians? Are Christians immune? Can Christians be cursed?

The Bible says: “A curse without a cause will not alight.”

Like a sparrow in its flitting, like a swallow in its flying, So a curse without cause does not alight (Proverbs 26:2)

So people can send curses your way, but if there is no legal entry way for the demon carrying the curse, to penetrate your shield, and attach himself to you, then the curse will not be able to attach itself to you (alight), and instead, it will fall to the ground powerless as you see the curse below did… it had no affect upon David.

The Philistine said to David, “Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?” And the Philistine cursed David by his gods (1 Samuel 17:43).

If one maintains a pure heart by repenting of sin whenever it occurs in their life, then a curse will not have a legal right to alight and it will not alight upon the person.

... your heart was tender and you humbled yourself before the Lord when you heard what I spoke against this place and against its inhabitants that they should become a desolation and a curse, and you have torn your clothes and wept before Me, I truly have heard you,” declares the Lord. 2 Kings 22:19

Are you allowing sin to reign in your life? As Christians we are often tempted to sin in more subtle ways. The excuses start popping into our heads:

- This sin doesn’t really hurt anybody.
- Who would know?
- This will help or protect someone else.
- Everyone else is doing it.
- Society says this is OK. This was just a cultural thing in the Bible.
- At least I’m not as bad as “that guy”.

Recognize any of these. The list could go on and on. But every time we give into sin, we open ourselves up to attack. So, we must resist the temptation and, when we do fail, quickly repent and rest in the grace and forgiveness of Christ.

A modern day example of a curse alighting:

One person whom I prayed for had come under a curse by allowing fear to enter his heart, and with it, a curse. Those who wanted to place him under a curse, took a junk car, all painted up crazy and with stuff hanging off it, and parked it on the street in front of his home for two days. This sparked fear in his heart, and the curse alit. We repented of the fear and broke the curse in prayer.

Summary: So to stay free of fear, don’t listen to negative people, including Christians who are full of fear of the antichrist, and everything else… and I suggest you get a great charge of faith weekly.

So, yes, curses are real. Christians are not immune from curses but, through Christ we can be protected. Take up the shield of faith, by which you are able to quench all the fiery darts of the evil one, and I pray to be covered under Christ’s blood and hidden under the shadow of His wings.
