In March, 2011, the various state-level ministries of Tourism from throughout Mexico met in Campeche (on the Yucatan Peninsula) to discuss the implementation of President Felipe Calderon's new mandate to make tourism the country's official national focus; besides being the place of the meeting, there is also some special significance for a development of nearby cheap Mexico beachfront lots.

This is why the meeting between the Ministers of Tourism is part of a very significant process; the various levels of government in Mexico have agreed to work together to make Mexico one of the top 5 countries in the world in terms of number of international visitors and income generated.
