It is easy to understand why people love the 3D technology and why it is the latest sensation to hit the world; after all, who doesn’t want to view real-life pictures that sure look amazing?

After having successfully taken over television sets and games, it is now time for 3D to venture into the world of mobile phones too! LG has already declared that it will launch its first 3D phone, the Optimus 3D P920 tentatively at the end of March in Europe. It will have a 4.3 inch screen with 480 x 800 pixel resolution. Its stereoscopic technology will allow the viewer to enjoy watching 3D content without glasses. Another major feature will be its twin-lens 3D camera with which you will be able to take stereoscopic photos and videos.

The Japanese company Sharp too has plans to launch its 3D handset, the Galapagos 003SH which is likely to go on sale from the end of this year. It will have a 3.8 inch display screen with 800 x 480 pixel resolution and also a 9.6 megapixel camera (not 3D).

Motorola and Samsung also have similar plans. Though at present Samsung is claiming that it does not want to compete with LG regarding ...
... 3D mobile phone, yet surely they are not too far from their own launch! Indeed a few models have been unveiled, like the SCH-B710 which looks like a regular slider but turns into a 3D screen when the display is turned sideways and the AMOLED 3D SCH-W960 (likely to have a 3.2inch touchscreen with a resolution of 240 x 400 pixels) which is capable of showing 3D images without glasses. Motorola, on the other hand is planning on a 3D version of its highly successful Ming models later this year.

Zen and Spice are two other companies that have launched their own 3D models, the S30 and the M-67 respectively. However both are available only in India.

With the increasing use of 3D technology in all kinds of screens, it is therefore not too far away when such a time will come when 2D sets will become a thing of the past and only 3D mobile phones will rule!
