3D glasses are used specifically to view 3D content, without which the images may appear rather distorted and out of focus. There are two types of these glasses using different technologies:
Active- they are usually powered glasses and involve moving elements that split the visuals to provide separate images to each eye.
Passive - that rely on the optical material to help differentiate which image is meant for which eye.

The two most popular ones in use are the passive-
Red/Green or Red/Blue 3D glasses - where, two images are shown, one in red and the other in green or blue. The filter on the glasses allows only one image to enter a single eye which then passes on to the brain which automatically combines both and creates a single image.
Polarized glasses - two images with different polarization are superimposed onto the same screen with the help of two synchronized projectors.

However, the active ones too are now catching up because of their cheap price along with good quality 3D viewing.

Also there are 3D glasses that particularly target kids. This are the TRON glasses, though very good looking ones but rather expensive at $150. Also, in the market are Calvin Klein 3D sunglasses. These sunglasses are offered in three men's and three women's styles with tons of features which include - M3D patent-pending circular-polarized lens technology, photochromatic capability etc.

On Amazon, you are likely to get plenty of these glasses at a discounted price, indeed a few of Samsung's top models can be found there too.
