If you are looking to add some lights to your emergency response vehicle, the first thing that you are going to need is a Lightbar. They are the main component of the lighting system on any first responder vehicle. Sure, you can get grill lights and dashboard lights, but if you want someone to really notice you as you are going down the street, you are definitely going to need a high quality bar of lights on your roof.

Before you even start looking for a Lightbar, you need to determine what your specific needs are. Many people skip this step, and it makes the whole process a lot more difficult. Are you going to use it on a volunteer response vehicle? Do you want to be as inconspicuous as possible? How much are you willing to spend? Once you have this information and a clear objective in place, you will have a much easier time deciding what kind of Lightbar is right for you. After you have this information, you can then move on and consider the following factors.

The first thing you need to consider is the size of the Lightbar you desire. They come in all different sizes, from slim bars ...
... that you can hardly see, all the way up to the standard police Lightbar systems that you can see coming from a mile away. Generally speaking, most people like to get one that is as inconspicuous as possible, especially if they are using their lights on a volunteer response vehicle. You don't want to be driving around in a car that looks like a police car all day. There are some great lighting systems that are so slim, you can hardly tell they are there.

The next thing you have to consider when choosing a Lightbar for your car is the color of the lights. Now, in most jurisdictions, there are laws that determine what colors you can run depending on what your job is. Some colors are reserved for police officers. Some colors are reserved for other emergency vehicles, and so on. If you ask around or look at the Lightbar systems that some of your colleagues are running, you will be able to see which color is best. There are even some systems that allow you to switch out bulbs or lenses so you can change the colors as you please.

Finally, you need to consider the overall design of the Lightbar. Just as there are many sizes and colors available, there are many designs as well. There are your standard police Lightbar systems that look like they came out of the 1970's, all the way up to modern, aerodynamic lighting systems and everything in between. The selection that is available is quite large, so once you have a look at what's available, the decision will be a lot easier.

Buying a Lightbar for your vehicle doesn't have to be difficult. There are many things you need to consider if you want to make a wise decision, but as long as you focus on the right areas, you should have no trouble. Start looking today and get the perfect Lightbar system for you!
