The ADT wireless system is our most popular home security system by far. As technology continues to improve the need to make the products accessible to every homeowner becomes a great challenge to manufacturers. For example when DSL hit most of America for the first time, most users were told that the only way their DSL service would work efficiently was by running data wires using Cat 5 wiring throughout their entire house or business. Imagine if you owned a two or three story house, now you would have to run Cat 5 wiring from the router to every computer in the house. As you can imagine this caused a very big problem because most people did not want to pay for a professional low voltage contractor to come out and charge hundreds or thousands in some cases to wire the house. As soon as it became a reality that most DSL users would not get the service because of this problem the manufacturers went right to work in finding a solution. And that solution came in the way of a wireless router and computers that had built in WIFI cards.

When it comes to security things are no different. In years past whenever a home security ...
... system was sold the only option was to run wires throughout the entire house and back to the control panel. It was a normal thing to leave evidence of wiring all over the house on top of baseboards, up the side of walls and all along ceilings. it was the normal thing to do. Customers were left with an interconnection of wires all over their homes which looked horrible and worst of all were prone to be damaged during normal everyday activities.

As this was a big problem nationwide the manufacturers went to work in finding a quick solution to this big problem. And as with most new technologies which come up, wireless alarm equipment had many flaws. The biggest flaw that these new wireless systems is that they came with a very limited number of house ID’s. What that means is that each system installed had an individual house ID which would tell the system that the wireless sensors within the protected area all had to match so that if your neighbor also installed the same wireless system you wouldn’t set off their system and they wouldn’t set off your system. The problem with that was that all of the wireless systems came set from factory with the same house ID and as human nature would have it no installer would go out of his way to change the house ID out of laziness or just plain stupidity. What would then happen was the inevitable false alarm. You would set off your neighbors alarm and he would set off yours.

The good news is that today all of these problems have been corrected and wireless security is the best product on the market. It is more reliable than the traditional wired sensors because there are no wires to be damaged by the users. It is also immune to power surges because there is nothing to be affected by lightning strikes. They are impenetrable because they are tamper proof and they use the same encryption that the government uses in their computer systems, 128 bit encryption.
