Company registration procedure in Singapore is fast and efficient since it is fully computerized by the Singapore Registrar of Companies. Under normal situation, the company can be registered in 1-2 business days.

Basically, there are only two steps involved in the Singapore company setup procedure: (1) Approval of a Company Name and; (2) Registration of a Company. These steps can be done on the same day assuming there are no issues caused by the Company Registrar.

Step 1: Company Name Approval

The proposed name for the company must be approved first before setting up a Singapore company. You should apply for it by filling up an application with the Company Registrar. To have a bigger chance of getting your proposed name approved, make sure the name
* is not in any way similar to an existing local company name
* does not violate with any brand names or trademarks
* is not obscene or offensive
* is not already taken

An approved company name will be reserved for 60 days from the application date. You can extend the reservation by filling a conservatory request for another 60 days, approximately 2 months, just before it expires.

Step 2: Company Registration

Once you get your company name approved, you have to fill up an incorporation request with an approval from the Registrar of Companies. Usually, this won't take you a day to complete assuming registration documents are ready and have been signed by the directors and shareholders of the new company.

There are some instances that this procedure gets delayed due to some issues with the nationalities of the director or shareholder; although this almost never happens. If ever this happens, the authorities might have to ask for additional information.

There is a registration fee of S$300 when applying for a Singapore Company Registration and it is billed at the time of registering a private limited company to the Singapore Registrar of Companies.
