Iceland is a Volcanic island on the mid of the Atlantic Ridge. The core of the Country is about at 65° N and 18° W. The nearest countries are the Faroe Islands, 420 km, Greenland, 287 km and Scotland, 798 km. Iceland's area is approximately 102,700 km2 and its lineation 6300 km, and 37 percent of the country is over 600m just above sea level. Only percent of the Country is productive land and two-thirds of it is sparse vegetated glaciers and desert.

Glaciers cover about 11 percent of the Country's surface, and the largest of them is Vatnajokull, that is 8300 km2. Also, the higher mountain in the Country is there, Hvannadalshnjukur 2119m. Iceland was small part of the Danish empire till 1918 but got full independence in 1944.

This Country is divided into 20 administrative districts, five electoral districts and 101 municipalities. Many of the larger towns are come near the capital city: Mosfellsbaer Hafnarfjordur, Kopavogur and Gardabaer, but of the other bigger towns the largest are Reykjanesbaer in the southwest corner and Akureyri in North Iceland.
