With the new year ushering in the award season, the 6th Apsara awards function took place in Mumbai at the Bandra Kurla Complex recently. Having successfully established its credentials in the last five years, the Apsara awards are given out to honour exceptional talent in the film and television fraternity. The numbers of entries to the awards have grown by leaps and bounds in the last few years, making it one of the most popular and coveted awards. Established by the Film and Television Producers Guild of India in 2004, the awards have acknowledged talent, perseverance, innovation and pure artistry.

The evening witnessed the presence of superstar Amitabh Bachchan along with Shahrukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra, Katrina Kaif, Sonakshi Sinha, Malaika Arora Khan, Karan Johar, Anushka Sharma, Vidya Balan, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Farah Khan, and many other celebrities. As the stars arrived, they were all seen signing on the Chevrolet that was on display at the venue.

Anushka Sharma, Priyanka Chopra and Sri Lankan beauty Jacqueline Fernandez also set the stage ablaze with their dances. Govinda paid a tribute to Dharamendra, the He-Man of the Golden Era as he performed to some of Dharam Paaji's hit numbers.
Salman Khan starrer, Dabbangg swept the awards night by bagging eight awards, which included Salman Khan getting the award for the best actor. Band Baaja Baarat followed close with six awards in its kitty. Anushka Sharma for Band Baaja Baarat and Tamil beauty Vidya Balan bagged the best actress award for her performance in Ishqiya.
