Common Skin Problems In Cats
Our pets are our life. We will give them anything when they look at us with those big eyes. But when they get sick, we hurt too because they can't take care of themselves. Even cats, which are considered to be very independent animals, need us to make sure that they love and healthy lives. So when our kitty looks sick it makes us feel like bad pet owners. But how do you know when you kitten isn't doing so well, especially regarding common skin problems? Cats usually have very thick fur. This fur is a form of protection for the skin. However, when there is a problem with the skin, the fur can make it hard to know what is wrong. This is why you should make time to look at your cat's skin to make sure that it is healthy.
You can examine your cat's skin by gently rub the skin with your hands and trying to find any patchy, rough textures. If you feel anything different, separate the fur and look at the skin closely. If you do this regularly, you will know if your cat has any abnormalities that have developed on its skin. It may be useful to talk to your cat's veterinarian, find books in library, or search the internet to find ...
... different skin conditions common in cats so you will be knowledgeable about them.
There are skin disorders that are contagious to other cats and even to people. Some symptoms to watch out for are itchiness, scaly skin, a dandruff-like flakiness. Other skin disorders cause hair loss for your kitty. This is often because of infections, general sickness, or even overly stressful circumstances. In this situation, you will find bald spots in the fur and the skin can be red or swollen. Common cat skin problems include cheyletiellosis and alopecia. Cheyletiellosis is due to mites and contagious but can be treated with medication.
The majority of your cat's skin problems are due to food allergies or insect bites. In any case, all of these issues are non-life threatening and can be treated easily. The key to minimizing any extreme issues from escalating is to detect the problem early and get it diagnosed. Then all you will have to do is give your kitty her medicine and plenty of love.
