Wedding speeches never go out of date. Styles may change, service venues may change but the father of the bride is still as proud of his daughter today as he was 100 years ago. Of course the fact that many couples today are co-habiting affects the content of the speech. He may, for instance, have to refer to a grandchild or two in his speech. Yet, however times change he will be happy to welcome the guests and especially the groom's family into his. So no matter what else changes at wedding speeches have timelessness about them as does the moment the couple exchange their r vows.

Take for instance the speech by the groom. Whatever else he may say he will surely speak of his bride's beauty and the fact that he is very happy that she has agreed to marry him. He will normally express his gratitude to his parents for their love and devotion and perhaps for their help in arranging the wedding. If he wants to impress his in-laws he should speak of their welcome for him and the fact that they have such a wonderful daughter. In fact he will compliment them for making her such a special person. Most couples receive gifts and ...
... wedding speeches by the groom should thank the guests for those gifts. He might also mention the fact the their presence has made the day for the couple.

Wedding speeches by the father of the groom are usually shorter but again fathers usually say what a marvellous son the groom was and they will also mention the good taste he has inherited from them in choosing such a lovely bride. Obviously if there has been a divorce or separation this should be omitted. A thoughtful blessing at the end of his wedding speech should say it all.

Wedding speeches by the best man are, as always, expected to be witty and contain a few incidents known only to him about the groom. Sometimes a woman acts in the role of best buddy and her speech will be slightly different because obviously her relationship with the groom is different. Both of them, though, will wish the couple all the best in their future lives. The best man normally ends his speech by responding to the groom's toast to the bridesmaids. Of course if the father of the bride has not toasted the happy couple the best man should do so.

Weddings may have changed but people haven't and wedding speeches are all about love and, of course, so is marriage.
