Diamond rings are the most preferred and most commonly used in an engagement and wedding ring. It is a special ring because aside from the fact that it is expensive, it is also unique and extraordinary. Every cut imparts varied brilliance. So, when someone gives you a diamond ring, you can feel that you're the most beautiful and most important person in his life.

Diamonds are forever and diamonds are a girl's best friend as Marilyn Monroe says in her song. And for the girls who love to buy diamonds, they must be familiar with the basic Four C's of diamonds (the Color, Clarity, Carat and Cut) before you can begin with your shopping.

Color

A diamond is typically transparent and it's very rare that you can find a colorless diamond. And the whiter it is the greater its value. Diamonds are rated from D through X. Diamonds with D to F ratings are the most desirable.

Clarity

Clarity refers to the inclusions and blemishes (characteristics). Inclusion like the air bubbles inside the diamond or imperfections of the diamonds. The less cuts or chips the diamond the higher the value.

Carat

Carats ...
... refer to the weight of the diamond. The bigger the carat weight of a single diamond, the more expensive it is compared to a cluster of diamonds with the same carat weight.

Cut

This is the most important characteristic of a diamond. This refers to the way a diamond is cut, that will show off its brilliance. Light passes through the diamonds and reflect it, the best diamonds should reflect light and the lesser ones do not reflect back the light, making it less brilliant. The dullness, durability and all other features that we're looking for refers to the cut.

You can also look for its shape and setting.

Or the fancy shape like heart shape which symbolizes love. And pear shape diamond that combines the oval and marquise shape.

Setting: The purpose of the setting is to hold the diamond securely. Prong setting is the most commonly used setting which allows the diamond to stand out. There are also a lot of settings that you can choose from like Bezel setting, in which a precious metal wraps around the diamond. Diamonds set in an abstract design is called cluster setting.
