Internally, the Rolex Datejust boasts of superior engineering shared by the watches in the Rolex Oyster Perpetual line. A self-winding 31-jewel movement certified by the Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres, or COSC, as a superlative chronometer beats at the heart of the Rolex Datejust. This certification ensures accurate timekeeping and reliable performance even when the watch is used in the harshest of environmental conditions. A slim, smooth, durable sapphire crystal guards the Rolex Datejust's dial from scratches, build-ups, and water intrusion, and it is set with a Cyclops lens on its 3 o'clock position, conveniently magnifying the date numeral underneath. Completing the Rolex Oyster legacy is a hermetically sealed caseback, measuring a torque of five Newton meters, which renders the timepiece waterproof for up to a depth of 330 feet or 100 meters.
