The classic Rolex timepiece architecture has been recognized as one of the world's most important, most timeless wristwatch designs in the history of horology. Every line line isn't wasted, every curve a flawless representation of class, elegance, and strength. This selfsame attribute is the reason why the Rolex bezel styles on each timepiece is seen as a vital component in its geometry -- whether it is purely cosmetic, or serving a specialized functionality.

There are three basic kinds of Rolex bezel styles: simple, functional, and jeweled. Simple bezels can either be polished, fluted, domed, engine-turned, and finely engine-turned. The most functional in Rolex bezel styles are found in the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Professional line of watches. The Rolex Cosmograph Daytona, for instance, has a tachymeter bezel that can be used to measure average speed and distance in conjunction with the timepiece's chronograph sub-dials. The Rolex GMT-Master II's 24-hour bezel can be used to display a different timezone. The Rolex Submariner and the Rolex Deepsea's unidirectionally rotatable bezels are essential for divers to measure the interval between decompression times. The Rolex Yacht-Master II's ring command bezel is used to program a regatta's start time. These and numerous other functions on other Rolex Oyster Perpetual Professional watches make the bezel an essential part of its architecture.

Jeweled bezels can either be channel set or beadset, and are encrusted with different kinds of precious stones depending on the watch model. The Rolex Datejust Special Edition, the Rolex Lady Datejust Pearlmaster, and some Rolex Day Date President models offer diamonds frosted on 18k gold or platinum bezels. Some will have a choice of either diamond, emeralds, rubies, or sapphires, and in other models still, a combination of any of the aforementioned.
