It is known that Plasma is considered as the fourth state of matter. It include ions, some of the positively charged atoms, negatively charged ions called electrons and few positively charged molecules. Also, it consists of neutrally charged atoms. In fact, plasma is known as a good conductor of electricity. The system of plasma exists at a very high temperature and is used by the plasma cutting in order to cut the metals.

Systems of Plasma Cutting: An Overview

Now, let us discuss how plasma cutting system works. In this, a gas is released through a very narrow space, while increasing its high pressure and before the gas escapes, an electrode is placed in its way, which passes an electrical current through the gas. The gas atoms on being stimulated by the electric current thereby produce positively as well as negatively charged ions. Further, these produced ions collide with each other and with the rest of the gas atoms to produce more ions. And, in no time, the gas reaches a superheated state called plasma.

The overall plasma cutting systems are nothing but an electrical circuit that include an electrode ...
... that acts as a negative fatal known as cathode, together with the metal sheet to cut, which acts as the positive terminal. During the process the narrow opening of the nozzle increases the pressure, which is exerted by the gas that blows away the melted metal, and it thereby cut the metal sheet. This process keep the plasma arc thin and controlled with the help of the shield gases.

Additionally, a plasma cutter is made available with the channels in order to release the shield gases that exert much pressure and even control the plasma arc. This further keeps the plasma jet directed on the metal sheet. Inert gases, also called as semi-inert gases are used as the shield gases to protect the welded area where the plasma arc or jet comes in contact with the metal. Also known as plasma torch, the plasma cutting systems are made available as manual as well as computer-controlled. So, careful consideration is necessary beforehand.
