Astrology is the study of celestial bodies such as the sun, moon and stars and then relating their positions and other details to the everyday affairs of humans. While some astrologists use the information to explain mundane affairs and argue that these celestial bodies are able to reflect on these, others argue that the celestial bodies are the cause of the happenings on earth. The word comes from the Latin word astrologia meaning astronomy.

It is strongly believed that the first to develop astrological methods and doctrines were the ancient Babylonians and their belief upon omens which began in the 2nd millennium BC. It then follows that the system used by the ancient Babylonians then spread to other parts of the world, the Middle East and Greece. The modern horoscope form of astronomy came about when the Babylonian system spread and merged with the Egyptian form of astrological forms.

This particular tradition consists of the two dimensional models of the heavens horoscopes which have been created for a specific point in time, and it is then used to interpret meanings of underlying alignments of all the celestial bodies. Generally these calculations were linked to births or events because they were thought to have been the cause of said events.

There are four possible divisions of the horoscope form of astrology, each of which holds a specific purpose.
