While it is true that a lot of movies are made or at least partially made in Hollywood, there are a lot of other movie locations all around the world. Some areas are used more than others, such as Seattle, New York, London and Paris. But, some of the most remote or obscure places may become the filming site for the next blockbuster.

There are specific people that serve as location scouts for film and television. It is their job to find the right house, business, streets, etc. For each part of the film. Some movies use a lot of locations, while others are limited to just a few, or even just one.

For example, National Treasure and National Treasure II both took us to locations around the world, most notably Washington DC, Paris and London. While, Night in the Museum was mostly shot around New York City. The Lord of the Rings series was filmed in New Zealand. And, of course, Pretty Woman was taped in Beverly Hills.

There are travel tours and agents that specifically design trips around the locations of films and/or scenes within them. Some people get so wrapped up in particular movies and shows, ...
... that they want to visit the area they were filmed, whether it is because the simply want to see the area and perhaps take in the history, or whether they are caught up in the adventure or the romance of the film itself.

Perhaps you saw Rodeo Drive in Pretty Woman, and now you want to shop there, at least once. Or, maybe you were taken in by some of the exhibits in Night in the Museum II and now want to visit the Smithsonian. Surely, the landmarks visited by the National Treasure characters, such as the Statue of Liberty in Paris and a visit to the White House, encourage people young and old alike to want to see these places for themselves.

You can locate the specific locations of many of your favorite movies on the internet or within the pages of books written on the subject. While it may not be easy to find a current filming location, unless you live or work nearby, you can certainly find those specific to already finished projects.

There is little doubt that films and television aid the tourist industry. But, becoming the site for movie locations also helps the economy of the area in other ways. Having the production there brings a lot of income for local hotels, restaurants and other businesses, as well.
