Jim Perry is a former Major League Baseball player. He played baseball for several teams in the MLB from 1959-1975.

Perry was born on the 30th of October in 1835. Perry is from Williamston, North Carolina. While today many players forego playing college at all, Perry started school in Campbell University. He continued on there until being signed by the Indians in 1956.

Sometimes Perry is overshadowed by the fame of his brother. Gaylord Perry, his brother, is one of the most famous players of all time. While Jim Perry is not a Hall of Famer, he had a very successful career that is nothing to be ashamed of.

The Indians decided to give Perry a real chance to play about 3 years after he was signed. In 1959 he was a rookie and had a very successful first season. His success was almost enough to land him Rookie of the Year honors. He was 2nd in voting behind Bob Allison that season for the Rookie of the Year voting.

In his 3rd season he was already earning himself a name in the league. He made his first all-star team in 1961. That would be his first of 3 appearances in his career.

In 1963 Perry ...
... would move on to play with a new team. The Minnesota Twins signed Perry and they would be his team for about the next decade. Perry played for the Minnesota Twins from 1963-1972.

While playing with the Minnesota Twins he would have the greatest success of his career. 1969 was the beginning of a new Perry. While Perry had great seasons before, 1969 was the first season in which he won at least 20 games. That season really set the tone for the rest of his career as in 1970 Perry was the best pitcher in the league. He compiled a record of 24-12 on the season and was voted the AL Cy Young Award winner. The next season he managed to make another all star team. This was his second year in a row and the 3rd and final time of his career.

Over the course of his career he managed to win at least 17 games in a season 5 different times. In his prime he was certainly considered to be a great pitcher to have at the top of a pitching rotation.
As far as pitchers went, he was a great hitter. He had a batting average of .199 over the course of his career as a switch hitter.

He had one career start against his brother Gaylord. While Gaylord was a more successful pitcher over the course of his career, Jim's team took the win in their matchup.

He played for the Indians and the Athletics before ending his career in 1975. He is still alive and is now 75 years of age.

He ended his career with a record of 215 wins and 174 losses. His career earned run average was 3.45. He also accumulated 1576 strikeouts over the course of his career.
