Pantone Colour Of The Year - 18-2120 Honeysuckle
Each year, colour experts Pantone select a colour which they deem to be the hottest shade of the year. It influences everything from fashion to designer furniture. Alexandra Toso, Features Editor for Furnish.co.uk looks at how it will work in the home.
The Pantone Colour of the year is 18-2120 Honeysuckle. An upbeat, rich pink which has no doubt been chosen to contrast the grey, gloomy atmosphere of the world.
It's almost as if Pantone has stamped its feet and said enough doom of economic crises, environmental catastrophe and rogue governments and let's embrace this happy shade.
Pink often seen as a predominately sickly sweet colour, the preserve of teenage girls' bedrooms and hideous bridesmaid dresses. However, this honeysuckle shade is far from girly. It's a sophisticated shade that works well on designer furniture, wallpaper, paint, fabric and textiles.
Its sophisticated hue works well with almost all colours of the spectrum. Team it with orange and you have a punchy, brave combination ...
... that's guaranteed to create a bold statement.
Add accessories in this shade to a indigo living room and it will give you a pop of sophisticated colour.
So how can you make this colour work for you in the home?
Walls
Sure, an entire room painted in Honeysuckle might not be everyone's cup of tea but that doesn't mean you have to avoid it all together.
In small doses, this shade will instantly brighten your scheme. Try painting a chimney breast to add impact or alcoves to help lighten a dark corner.
Furniture
A designer, statement chair or sofa covered in Honeysuckle fabric will create dramatic effect in your living room. Or how about a upholstered headboard or elegant chaise longue in the bedroom?
Accessories
Cushions and throws are stylist's secret to bringing a room to life. Got a boring sofa or chair? Think your plain, white bed linen could do with a lift? Then layering on Honeysuckle-coloured throws cushions will instantly create a new look. Trying using different sizes, textures and shapes to add interest and depth.
Flooring
While you'd be right in thinking a Honeysuckle-coloured carpet is the preserve of the bold and brave that doesn't mean you can't incorporate this shade in small doses. A plain or patterned rug is just the thing to revive tired floorboards without being too overbearing.
So, whether you opt for a full-on Honeysuckle scheme or delicate touches, Pantone's colour of the year has something for everyone.
