Individuals, nowadays, have become too busy in tackling their personal and professional affairs. As a result, each and every person prefers using mechanical devices for conducting all his tasks rather using his own hands. In such a scenario, finding a paper and pen and writing a letter to the loved ones, without an assurance of getting back any replies in return seems quite silly. SMTP or Simple Mail Transfer Protocol is a component that has a remarkable role to play in facilitating instant and successful communication through electronic mails. The technological advancements, in short, have not only enhanced the standard and pace of corporate and academic sector, but the social sphere as well by making the process of communication so effective with the help of email server SMTP.

When it comes to extended emailing service, the SMTP server is classified into two categories - normal or In-built server and the other one is the Proxy sever. The former classification is the mechanism that is active by default during the process of transferring electronic mails. The normal server is the one that accepts the messages coming ...
... from multiple various clients. There is a long series of steps that is followed by the server in making its functions effective in all respect. First of all, the Normal SMTP server of the recipient's computer system accepts the incoming email and then stores it in a particular central location. After a little delay, however, it is delivered to the recipient.

Three kinds of operating modes exist in which the different types of server can be used, namely, Stand-alone, Spam Firewall and Hybrid. The usage of any of these modes by a particular server completely depends upon its nature and type. In case of in-built SMTP server, all the three modes can conveniently be used for proper conduction of the email functions. The normal server is, basically, used when the final delivery of all the inbound emails is limited to the extended email and messaging server. The next on the list of the types of servers is SMTP Proxy server. This is a built-in server, which is utilized when there is some other server present within a particular network for accepting the electronic mails.

The SMTP Proxy server is, normally, used where extended emailing and messaging server is not, actually, the final destination for the messages, but an additional component participating in the process. Unlike in-built server, the built-in proxy server does not have a local repository for the electronic mails being sent by a user, rather it behaves as a linking layer between a client and the other server on the network. Not only does it watch the emails sent by the clients, but the SMTP proxy server also modify a particular mail or even block it, if finds something wrong with its delivery. This built-in server cannot be used in Stand-alone mode, while it is fit to be used in other two operational mode, namely, Spam Filter as well as the Hybrid.

With the help of SMTP extended services offered by both the above-mentioned email server SMTP classifications, it has become easier for the owners of corporate organizations to conduct emailing functions conveniently.
