As I made my way through traffic one day, I noticed a specific bumper sticker on another driver's automobile. What made it stick out in my mind was the name Jesus in very big lettering. The bumper sticker was red and had the words "Tougher than Hell" printed onto it. This phrase caught my attention making me think. At first I had been just a little flabbergasted that this slang term was linked to the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ; but then I considered the context from the phrase. As opposed to other uses such as "crazy as h-l" this phrase contained a considerably different meaning.

And so I started to consider more about the actual significance of the initially disturbing message. When the words began to take on a different meaning, I realized the way the creator of this bumper sticker's message was correct. Today's society tends to throw around and misuse words like hell, making it hard for it to be much more than profanity. However, this particular phrase provides it an entire new meaning and shows the term being put to good use. ... and in the end transforms hell to something that is not just slang. It's converted into a true and definitive statement concerning the power in our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Revelations states that Satan did not have the strength to prevail and because of this lost his chance for Heaven. Satan resides in Hell and for that reason Hell is not stronger than our Lord. In the Genesis portion of the Bible, another reference is made stating that Jesus will assail Satan's head while Satan assails the heel of Christ. This reference pertains to the actual time of our savior's crucifixion. Jesus battled Satan and Hell to prevail and rise once more. He saved our souls by defeating Satan and taking all of our sins upon Himself. During this process, His victory and strength became ours too. His sacrifices helped us all to achieve the reward of a place in heaven with God.

After considering all Jesus Christ experienced to wash us of all our sins so we could all have another chance to walk beside God, the phrase assumes an entire new meaning. Jesus really is tougher than Hell and He proved it by fighting the ultimate struggle with Hell itself to emerge victorious for all of His followers. Since He is our supply of strength, we are in fact as strong as Him. Essentially, if we all know our Lord and believe we'll have the same strength that He did during a most important time. We are also "Tougher than Hell!" if we know our Savior and have confidence in His teachings.

When we realize our inner strength with the power of our Savior, we can accomplish anything.
