Fashion internationally is believed to have originated from the WEST to be more specific Paris! There were times when Indians were not counted as fashionable, yet Indian Sari has defined taken international values for the fashion industry. India is a secular country as we know it. Here every person has a distinguished quality and they express themselves differently by their cultural attire. Each state has its own fashion, its own identity. Gujaratis wear gujarati sari, while Bengalis and Maharastrians wear the same five to six meters of cloth in a different way. But sari stands as the identity of whole India. It is accepted as the Indian wear. There were times when at international level only Indian sari would have the significant place but the whole scenario changed after Aishwarya Ray and Susmita Sen became Miss World and Miss Universe. Indian garment industry has a hisroty as old as the history of India is. The people either prefer to the field of agriculture or they preferred to go in a mill. They had all the equipments, importers, exporters, suppliers and it was extremely organized institution of the time. Even the workers were highly paid. The garment industry has a recorded business of Rs.500190.5 approximately in export only in the year 2008-2009 only and almost the same amount of Garment import as well.

Mr. Premal Udani Chairman of the Apparel Export Promotion Council said in 45 th garment fair said that, ‘ The Apparel exporters have an ambitious target of US$15 billion in exports by year 2011-12, even though last year's exports at US$10.64 billion were slightly down by 2.64%. Each US$1 billion in exports requires an input of 36 million man hours of work and the attendant demand for raw materials, accessories and logistics creates vibrancy in the ecosystem and the same amount of garments imports.''

This is the golden time of garments business. India goes ahead in importing, exporting and manufacturing business. Apparel industry has a unique place in the world. After agriculture, textile industry has the 2ndlargest centre of exporting. Indian textile trade creates about 30% of the total exports! So, the position of this sector is bound to be raised.
