The earliest genuine chandelier known was created in 1167 A.D for Frederick I, the King of Germany and Holy Roman Empire. During the eight and a half centuries since then, the history of the chandelier spans many exciting and rapid changes in styles and fashion, but also saw many technological changes as the industrial world revolutionised, bringing with it the invention of candles and wicks, oil fuels, and most significantly, the invention of the electric light bulb. These were the very things that moved man to become revolutionary in tools which launched the planning of the chandelier to achieve new heights.

A feeling of awe most oftentimes strikes anyone who first views a magnificent chandelier for not only does it look stunning hanging from the ceiling, but its very presence gives a mundane room the look of style and grandness, and naturally, that anyone who have these magnificent ceiling dressing would bring a supposition of money and clout to those who own it . But even if the first chandelier was created in the twelfth century, this did not mean that no other light fixture was ever hung from the ceilings of people's ...
... homes in the earlier homes as shown by the early eighth century hanging lamps that were the forerunners of chandeliers.

Chronological records show that brass chandeliers became the leading products of one Flemish town, Dimant, across the 11th and also 15th century, and after that, the brass ball chandeliers from Holland were highly prevalent round the 16th century. Later on, the chandeliers evolved into symbolic in form and function and could be seen in the homes among the rich, famous as well as the powerful. The chandeliers changed in many ways, sizes and shapes as technology and shape modernised and transformed. In the 17th century, the initial chandeliers that included rock crystals were released. These were the first of the more extravagant and intricately designed chandeliers.

Then by the 1700s, glass artisans from Murano, Venice introduced to the known world the now eminent Murano glass chandeliers. This was a fresh style of chandelier, but one which is now commonly associated with the chandelier shape. In 1720, the glass chandeliers seen in England were still from the Dutch brass ball stem form. The term "chandelier" actually stems from the French word which loosely translates to candlestick, this was soon adapted in England and shortly the whole world who saw that appropriateness of suspended light fixtures from ceiling. The production and development of chandeliers stalled until the 19th century, when multiple revivals began all across Europe. During the Second Empire in France, they created historicizing styles. By the end of the 19th century, gas lighting was becoming increasingly available, and this marked a change in the technological style of chandeliers.

Presently, there are numerous designs of chandeliers, including those made specifically for corridors, discos, bars, even children's rooms with colorful and playful designs, not just for grand homes. They are way more popular and available to the public, and are less affiliated with royalty and riches. Art deco chandeliers began to be produced in 1970, and have continued to be very popular for a modern buyer looking for a contemporary piece for their home. History has recorded the assorted designs and forms of the chandeliers from its origins all the way to the present day and because of innovation and technology, has seen the development of other industries linked to chandelier industry. Despite their widespread worldwide recognition in modern-day, they still breathe an air of style into any room.
