New York,NY -- December 10, 2010 -- On the cusp of a new decade we're reminded that what was popular then always comes back around, and we're finding that to be true about low-carb diets. With the new break-out diet star,The 17 Day Diet, being sought out by everyone and the South Beach Diet Supercharged landing a spot as one of the most popular diets of 2010,it seems Americans are back to counting their carbohydrates.

In the 1990s, carb-counting was as much a past-time as was making new friends in Internet chat rooms and watching family-friendly television every Friday evening. However,in the early 2000s we saw that trend fade away as attention turned to the almighty calorie. As diet trends come and go,this one seems to be coming back with a vengeance.

"We're seeing a tremendous spike in traffic for low-carb diets right now," says Brandi Koskie, senior editor for DietsInReview.com. "With the release of The 17 Day Diet causing quite a stir and recent year's updates to the South Beach ...
... Diet, it's fair to say that the low carb trend is as hot as ever."

The 17 Day Diet focuses on metabolic cycling, which means dieters change the way they eat every 17 days through four cycles in an effort to burn fat, lose weight and reset their metabolisms. It's during the third cycle, "Achieve," when dieters will re-learn how to eat carbs.

In the South Beach Diet Supercharged, they've taken Dr. Agatston's original low-carb diet and infused it with more fitness, relying on interval training for increased benefits. This is also cyclical, with three eating phases introducing different carbs and low-glycemic foods at different points.

Both diets follow a clean-eating approach, which means no refined or processed foods, no grease, and no sugar.

Carbs can and should be a part of anyone's healthy diet. The brain runs on carbohydrates, so you can literally call them brain food. Powerful whole grains, like brown rice, oatmeal and rye, fresh fruits and vegetables, almonds, soy milk and legumes aren't foods to fear they are foods to embrace.
