You might think that Angela, the alien girl of upcoming movie Alien Girl, got her nickname because both she and her brother, who grew up in an orphanage, felt like aliens. But this is not so. Director Anton Bormatov's first film's heroine, played by Natalia Romanycheva, a character with a reputation as a bloodless killer, got her nickname because she reminded others of a creature with acid blood and a penchant for laying eggs in humans.
The script, written by Sergey Sokolyuk, is from a graphic novel written by a man who was a gang member in the 1990's and who is now a well-known blogger, Vladimir Adolfych Nesterenko. The plot is all about getting Angela out of Prague, a city in which she has been a sex slave to gypsies.
Thugs from the Ukraine, working for a character named Rasp, played by Eugene Mundum, want to retrieve her so she can influence her brother who is prepared to betray some names in a mob trial. Angela is not very kind to those sent to get her. She kills half of them and hooks up with the youngest, named Whiz, played by Eugene Tkachuk.
With all of this going on, the viewer might expect some very ...
... violent, Eurotrash exploitation. And Alien Girl is sometimes reminiscent of some action movies like La Femme Nikitato The Transporter. But this movie is a tad dull. It lacks suspense, the plot is vague, and there's a lot of ambiguity in the dynamics of the characters.
Romanycheva has the right looks for her part - what with her chopped off hair and pout. Her seduction of Whiz on a moving train is hot. She never gets beyond sort of intriguing though. She is introduced too late in a movie that's a little slow and the new movie release also has structural problems.
The end titles are the playful part of this new movie. The lead actors credits appear on mortuary slabs while a cheap Italian hit from the ‘80s plays in the background. It's too bad Bormatov saved it until last. A little of this in the beginning might have given this movie in the movie news a little more zip.
