When placing a senior loved one in a skilled nursing facility, it is important to understand what is expected of you, the caring family member or close friend. Each individual has certain needs, and it is important that the care facility can provide the essentials for each senior in a nursing home. Since Nursing facilities have less staff than residents, they staff is often stretching themselves quite thin. It is extremely valuable to the seniors family to visit their loved ones as often as possible to make sure that their senior loved one is receiving the care they need to live a happy and healthy life.

Too often, a senior is placed in a skilled nursing facility and is mistreated in someone or another. This mistreatment can range from neglect to not receiving a daily healthy snack. Whether or not the issue is a severe issue, your senior loved one should feel at home, not at risk. You may think that the skilled nursing facility is helping your senior loved one, and everything is going all right, but being naive can hurt you or a loved one. There are many tips you should pay attention to when you have a loved one in a ...
... senior care facility.

Family members and close friends know that they could take care of their parent or senior loved one better than anybody else can. This is usually and often truth. But, so many people do not have the time or money to be full-time caregivers. This is where senior care facilities come in handy. Placing a loved one in a senior care facility can be a great idea when you cannot take care of your loved one by yourself. But, with every good thing can be the upsetting things. In senior care facilities, your parent or senior loved one will have to understand the importance of patience, and so will you! When you visit your senior loved one in a skilled nursing facility, you will notice some things that should or should not be done while caring for the senior. If you notice this often, step back and think to yourself, “Am I just overreacting?”. Sometimes we overreact because we want specific care for our loved ones, and we always think we could care for the senior better than anybody else. This may or may not be the case.

Seniors can be in danger if they are not cared for in the correct ways. This is where the family members and close friends need to step in and evaluate their senior loved ones care. The nursing home may not be able to care for your senior loved one as much as you can, but if the care is reasonable and your loved one is receiving everything they need, there is no need to inquire or be concerned about their care. However, if you notice that your loved one is not receiving the best of care, you will need to inform the nursing aide, the staff manager, and the resident manager. You may need to talk with the nursing home administrator or corporate office if your senior loved one has been neglected. For example, a senior may not be getting adequate water, or the means to drink water (if they need help drinking or a sippy cup for easy access). The nurses may also be ignoring incontinence problems, such as your senior loved one wetting themselves and the nurse claims it is just water and not urine. These are big warning signs. If you feel furious about a situation that your senior loved one had to deal with, you will need to take action.

Understand that a skilled nursing facility may not be able to offer the amount of attention that your senior loved one needs, however, the residents need to be cared for in the best way possible. If your senior loved one has been having issues at their nursing home, you must communicate the problems with the administrator and staff. If you notice problems continuously, make sure to move your loved one into a new facility. You need to be sure that your senior loved one is safe in their nursing home, whether it is in an Arlington Heights Skilled Nursing Facility, or any other Nursing Home.
